A neuroscientist-neuroengineer named Maitrayee Wairagkar who is currently a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Davis was declared a runner-up for the prestigious ‘Inspiring Women in Science’ awards organized by the eminent journal, Science.
She was the only Indian shortlisted for the award and was runner-up in the “Scientific Achievement” category. She described her work as “developing advanced neurotechnology using artificial intelligence. I work on brain-computer interfaces to enable people with severe motor and speech impairments to communicate directly via their brain signals.”
