  • “O you who have believed, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become righteous.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse: 183)

  • As for relatives, if a relative is sick or in trouble, we should go and take care of them, console them, and if possible, help them. e should not take it for granted and say that we will meet them later, now we have to worship in this great month. It is wrong to do that because it is also included in worship. As for the neighbours, if they are short of food, let us eat together with them, lest we have a table full of delicious food and our neighbour is half-fed or hungry. Or we can send food to them before we eat or make arrangements to ensure that they also have enough to eat.And if the neighbour is sick, go to him, cheer him up, and help him. Don’t think of it as a waste of time as it is all included in worship

Ramadhan is considered a month of blessings, mercy, and forgiveness. Let us analyse what are the Rights of Ramadhan, Ramadhan is also known as the month of the Qur’an. There is a verse in this regard: شھر رمضان الذي انزل فیھ القران ھدى للناس وبینات من الھدى و الفرقان. سورة البقرة، آیت:١٨٥ “The month of Ramadhan in which the Qur’an was revealed, a guidance for people and clear proofs of the guidance and the Criterion.” (Surah Al-Baqrah, Verse: 185) So the month of Ramadhan has one right imposed on us. This month, we should read the Qur’an and understand it very well and at the same time, implement the commands mentioned in it in our practical lives. Not only that, we are also expected to convey the message of the Qur’an to others, teaching the Qur’anic verses and encouraging them to act upon them. Uthman bin ‘Affan (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur’an and teaches it.” [Al-Bukhari]. And by doing this we will receive the blessing of guidance as mentioned in the above verse. Because the Qur’an is the only book in which all the guidance, rules and regulations for a successful and peaceful life for all have been described. Social rules, business rules, political rules, marriage rules, just about every way to live a successful life is clearly explained in it, not only this life, i.e. worldly life, but also a way to succeed in the Hereafter has been described in it, which is a guide to all mankind.
One of the biggest and most important obligations of the month of Ramadhan is that we fast during it. Because it has been made obligatory on us. As Allah Almighty says in Qur’an; یا ایھا الذین امنوا كتب علیكم الصیام كما كتب على الذین من قبلكم لعلكم تتقون. سورة البقرة، آیت: ١٨٣ “O you who have believed, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become righteous.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse: 183) In this verse, the purpose of fasting has been explained, that through fasting one should adopt piety, and piety through fasting will be achieved only when we perform the fast the way it is supposed to be performed, i.e. to keep oneself safe from all small and big evils while fasting, and at the same time to worship the Lord with sincerity. The rights of the month of Ramadhan also include supererogatory prayers such as Taraweeh and Nafil, Adhkar, and charity. Also, if possible, Umrah should be performed. And most importantly, there is a night in this month that is better than a thousand months. Allah Ta’ala has mentioned this in Surah Al-Qadr of the Holy Qur’an. The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to look for this night in the last ten days of the month of Ramadhan. As this night is of such importance and virtue, it also has some rights. We should stay awake during this night and perform Nafil, recite Qur’an etc. In general, it is seen that we spend the beginning days of Ramadhan quite well and do a lot of worship. But when the last ten days come, instead of doing more prayers, trying to achieve Lailat-ul-Qadr and trying to please Allah, we start preparing for Eid, engaging in shopping etc. Whereas it should be that we should do shopping and preparations in advance so that we can worship in the last ten days and be blessed by Lailat-ul-Qadr. Well, if you haven’t already prepared or shopped, skip those things and prepare for eternal life. What’s the hope of this life, which can end at any time, for which we are forgetting our eternal life?
It is generally seen that there are different types of fasting people. The first type is those whose level of faith remains the same before and after Ramadhan. Their situation is that the way they live on normal days is the same in Ramadhan, just to complete the essentials and spend Ramadhan only culturally. There are other types of people whose level of faith goes down even more in the month of Ramadhan – they are in a state of fasting but they are sleeping all day long, they do not pray, and they continue committing sins and backbiting. They used to earn haram and they continue to earn haram even in Ramadhan, neither giving up their sins nor repenting from them. In short, they continue to sin even in the month of goodness. So, while they are blessed with Ramadhan, instead of increasing their good deeds, they increase their sins. May Allah save us from being such people. The third type of people are those who observe Ramadhan according to its rules, spend Ramadhan in the way that it is right to spend it, fast in the way that it is right to fast, and worship in the way that it is right to worship and these are the successful people. Another important point to note is that the rights of the month of Ramadhan include both the rights of Allah and the rights of the servants of Allah. We have to pay the rights of Allah as well as the rights of the servants of Allah in the month of Ramadhan. It is generally seen that we are doing the rights of Allah very well and get so busy with it that we forget or ignore the rights of the servants of Allah. The Messenger of Allah, PBUH, has explained many times the importance of the rights of the servants of Allah. The rights of parents, the rights of relatives, the rights of neighbours, and the rights of the poor and the needy. But we have considered the rights of Allah only as worship while paying the rights of the servants of Allah is also included in worship. We should join hands in the housework and do the housework together, cook the dishes together so that everyone gets time for worship and then worship together. It should not happen that someone spends the whole day in household chores and cooking, and someone just keeps praying, reciting the Qur’an and reciting Adhkar. As for relatives, if a relative is sick or in trouble, we should go and take care of them, console them, and if possible, help them. e should not take it for granted and say that we will meet them later, now we have to worship in this great month. It is wrong to do that because it is also included in worship. As for the neighbours, if they are short of food, let us eat together with them, lest we have a table full of delicious food and our neighbour is half-fed or hungry. Or we can send food to them before we eat or make arrangements to ensure that they also have enough to eat. And if the neighbour is sick, go to him, cheer him up, and help him. Don’t think of it as a waste of time as it is all included in worship.
Sometimes it so happens that people do a lot of worship in the month of Ramadhan, but after the month of Ramadhan, their behaviour is the same as before. Who are such people worshipping, the month of Ramadhan or Allah? If we worship Allah, then Allah is watching us every month and every year. He rewards us for our good deeds every month and every year. It is believed that the reward for good deeds is increased in the blessed month of Ramadhan. But it is also true that the month of Ramadhan comes to bring change in us. If we remain the same after the month of Ramadhan, then what is the benefit? At least, we have to try that even after the month of Ramadhan, we should keep ourselves connected with Allah Almighty, keep our connection with the Holy Quran, keep reading it, keep understanding it and keep telling people its message. May Allah Ta’ala grant us the ability to spend the month of Ramadhan the right way.
