This time after coming back home from the hospital I didn’t cry. Instead, I tried to be mentally stronger, by reading books and listening to motivational lectures. Now, I am also trying to be physically stronger. I’m following the diet which was advised by my doctor, doing some physical activity every day for about 30 minutes, eating healthy food, sleeping 6-8 hours a day and drinking 3 litres of water.

My name is Sanovar Banu. I’m 23 years old and I am from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Here, I am sharing my personal life experience which happened in May 2020 during the pandemic.
All of a sudden, my vision got blurry. I panicked and told my parents. In a rush, they took me to the hospital. There, the doctor checked my BP and it was 210/110, which was very high. I was admitted to the hospital in an emergency.
Later, the doctor diagnosed that I suffer from a rare autoimmune disorder called Takayasu’s arteritis. Takayasu’s arteritis (tah-kah-YAH-sooz ahr-tuh-RIE-tis) is a rare type of vasculitis, a group of diseases that causes blood vessel inflammation. In Takayasu’s arteritis, the inflammation damages the large artery that carries blood from your heart to the rest of your body (aorta) and its main branches.
My diagnosis was confirmed by angioplasty. My left renal artery was totally occluded and in the right renal artery, there was ostial 99% stenosis. So, the doctor placed a stent in my right renal artery as otherwise, it would be life-threatening. After that, I was given steroids to suppress my immune system which brought many side effects to my body. From that day on, my life was totally changed. All my dreams suddenly vanished. There were many days when I sat alone and cried a lot. No one actually knows what I went through.
After 2 years i.e; in June 2022, again I was admitted to the hospital because of high BP. This time I got seizures because of high BP (my vision was totally lost). I wasn’t able to see anything but after 2-3 hrs, I got my vision back again. After a few days, an angioplasty was done and again a stent was placed in my right renal artery because the old stent got blocked. After a few days, I was discharged from the hospital.
This time after coming back home from the hospital I didn’t cry. Instead, I tried to be mentally stronger, by reading books and listening to motivational lectures. To be honest, my doctor is the best I have ever seen. He showed kindness and thoughtful concern towards me and provided me with excellent medical care. I feel so blessed to know him as my doctor.
I don’t know what will happen to me in the future. But what I do know is, I am not going to ruin my present by thinking about it.
Here are some tips from my side for every woman out there to be healthy:
  • Be physically active more often.
  • Make sleep a top priority.
  • Improve your diet, including fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fibre-rich foods and healthy fats.
  • Organise your life.
