It is a need of the hour to encourage our children to learn about communal peace and communal harmony. Today in our country, when the democratic reputation of India is under question and there is chaos everywhere and the entire concept of peace and tranquillity is shattered, it is very important that future generations are taught about the importance of unity in diversity. They must be taught to live together peacefully and share their bread and butter with their neighbours, help each other in dire situations may it be financial help or emotional support, irrespective of the caste, race and status to which they belong.

A healthy society is a perfect amalgam of love, care and understanding. Its pillars are made up of sacrifices and compromises. Aiding each other in difficult times, and understanding and accepting the differences we share gives birth to a healthy and peaceful society. Today’s biggest concern looming in our heads is, how to build and maintain communal harmony. The atmosphere we live in is suffused with a slow loss of hope in humanity. There is chaos and suffering everywhere. Mercy and kindness are the words that are reduced to adorn beautiful speech. Our country India was once recognised and praised for its diversity in terms of religion, culture, languages, food and traditions.

Harmony literally means “joint”, which means to live cohesively in a society based on social, political, ecological, and religious differences. A human, by nature, yearns for love and peace. When communal harmony is threatened, the society becomes vulnerable to violence, and chaos and suffering become the second nature of society. The future of coming generations is in danger. To build a healthy and serene society, we need to look beyond gender, creed, religion and status.

But today, when we look around us, the talk of the town is all about inequality and discrimination on the basis of religion, status and gender. Compassion and kindness, the two traits which make humankind stand out are lost. And because of this, we see that not just our own country but the entire globe is in great agony and distress. There is no faith left in relationships, no compassion and generosity for the poor and needy, and no love and care between siblings. It is all about self-obsession and selfishness.

We live in a country where we can survive merrily only when we are tolerant towards each other, and respect each other’s religion, colour, status and culture. Communal harmony is one of the most crucial aspects of Indian society. It is the pride of India that despite so much diversity in its beliefs and culture, people co-exist. No doubt that peace and harmony are affected for many reasons, but still the citizens of this country have not given up on their brotherhood. And this brotherhood and unity can be maintained only if we rise above our pride and arrogance.

The existence of acceptance and tolerance among different communities is essential. Every person has the right to follow what they want to and to worship fearlessly what they believe in. Every human must be given the right to select his religion, and the right to choose his way of living. Human beings are called social animals. Living together in society yet harbouring grudges against each other in our hearts is hypocrisy. No human can live a lonely life, he needs the assistance of his fellow human beings. And together they build a healthy and progressive society. The biggest challenge today is to cater to the interest of a few, the faith of common men among themselves has shrunken. The harmony and peace are disturbed and shattered for the benefit of the elites of the society. But as responsible citizens of this country, it is our duty to ensure that we do not give in to the tricks of these people (who want to get benefited by creating ruckus and animosity among common people).

We must sit and discuss the issues we are facing, or the challenges we are going through. There should be no room for ill feelings or negativity in our hearts for each other. We must always try to understand each other and respect each other’s differences.
The democracy and secularism of our country are in shambles today. When you put on any news channel, all you see is the spread of hate speech and the peddling of fake news.
The reaction of a common man to fake news and false propaganda plays a pivotal role in maintaining peace and harmony. Recently in our country, many incidents happened where the people from different communities suffered a lot because of these smear campaigns held to tarnish the image of the people of a particular community. Those who trusted each other and were living in peace are now doubting each other’s intentions. People from a particular community are being portrayed as a threat to the entire nation. And thus the grounds on which the pillars of the constitution of our country were standing are now deeply affected. If the disturbed and troubled brotherhood and unity are not restored in the society, then the loss is irreversible. Hence, it is high time that we ponder upon the significance of communal harmony in society, and the consequences of destroying it..
